IQ Air filters, Indoor air filtration

You hear Indoor Air Filters, eg. IQAir,  being advertised everyday. These cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars to buy, used electricity, and require regular expensive replacement of filters. The effectiveness of portable air filtration machines is limited to a small area as the intake and discharge points are within feet of each other.

I recently tested a house for mold and the mold spore levels were found to be higher in the room where the Owner had an IQAir machine running continuously.

To achieve effective improvement in an entire house's indoor air quality actions should be taken in priority to remove sources of dust, mold, chemicals and off-gassing; seal sources of dust, chemicals, and off-gassing; provide sufficient ventilation relative to the size of the home; and finally, as a last step, use filtration.

An indoor air quality investigation will cost less than an air filter and provide you with a list of prioritized actions to take to achieve long term improvement in the air quality of the entire house. Generally  the most effective actions have no or low cost.
